Miss’d America 2018

Pattaya Hart –

Miss’d America 2018 ATLANTIC CITY – Thailand native Methawee “Plu” Sayampol, who performed as Ms. Pattaya Hart, was crowned this year’s Miss’d America in the 26th pageant Saturday night at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.Sayampol, who move from Bangkok to New York City to study dance, was first runner-up in 2015 to Fifi DuBois. After what began as a way to make extra money, Sayampol ascended to the top of the drag world Saturday as a fun, ditzy, sassy, fierce, good-time girl, which is how Sayampol described the persona in an interview with Atlantic City Weekly last week.Founded by John Schultz and Gary Hill, of the Schultz-Hill Foundation, Miss’d America is a spoof on the annual Miss America competition and serves as a fundraiser for local LGBTQ charities in South Jersey.”The very first year, it was a modest event,” said Rich Helfant, who is president of the Greater Atlantic City LGBT Alliance and co-executive producer of the pageant, said in an interview with The Press of Atlantic City last week. The second year, it raised funds for the South Jersey AIDS Alliance, and its popularity exploded, Helfant said”It would sell out without advertising. It became a must-see event,” Helfant said. “We would start selling tickets for the following year’s pageant the night after (the event).”The pageant stopped after Miss America moved its competition to Las Vegas in 2005 but returned in 2010 and has been held in Boardwalk Hall, the now-shuttered House of Blues in the Showboat, Harrah’s Resort and the Borgata.Contact: 609-272-7260 JDeRosier@pressofac.com Twitter @ACPressDeRosier
